As a member of our Engineering Team you will work on a sophisticated code platform used in our products. You will contribute to the design and development of custom measuring apps and to our web app and provide onsite customer support for product installations and troubleshooting.
Our customers work with engineers, not sales reps, from the first conversation through install, commissioning and support. We're hiring a new grad who wants to be that engineer and write the software behind it. You'll ship code, then join our customer on their plant floor and watch it run.
What You'll Do
Months 1–3: Learn the system inside and out
- Hands-on training with MG1/MG3/MG5/MGX gauges
- Learn mgOS architecture, measurement apps (Strips, Plates, Zones, Gypsum, Veneer), calibration and PLC integration
- Shadow a colleague providing remote customer support and then participate in a customer installation
Months 3–12: Build, ship, support
- Software development - custom mgOS apps and measurement modes for specific customer lines; mgConnect features (status dashboards, daily summaries, trend reports); internal tooling and AI-assisted workflows
- QA & release - test measurement and motion software on real hardware before it ships; help build a more repeatable test and commissioning process
- Installation & commissioning - travel to customer plants to install, align, calibrate and hand over systems, including PLC network setup and closed-loop tuning
- Customer support - remote troubleshooting (phone, video, remote login) and occasional on-site service visits under our Go-Flat-Out plans
- Requirements & demos - spend time with plant engineers and operators to understand what they actually need, translate that into specs, and demo systems to prospective customers
Education & Expertise
- Recent Graduate - Possess a degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Software Engineering and ideally have an internship in a related field.
- On-site - Must be able to work full-time onsite in our Kanata office - in-person daily collaboration with our Engineering, Sales and Marketing teams is essential.
- Solid programming fundamentals and use of at least one of Python, C/C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, SQLite
- Comfortable with hardware - you've wired a sensor, debugged a serial/Ethernet connection, or built something that moves.
- Willing to learn LabVIEW (mgOS is built on it today; mgConnect and new tooling are moving toward Python and web stacks — you'll work in both)
- Familiar with Claude Code and/or other LLM/AI developer tools
- Clear communicator who can explain a technical problem to a plant operator and a plant manager in the same afternoon
- Practical, curious, and comfortable when things don't go to plan.
- Business Travel - About 25% of the time working at customer facilities and attending trade-shows. Some travel may be outside of North America. Must have a valid Canadian passport & be eligible to travel without restriction.
- Driver’s License - Possess a valid license used for vehicle rentals, as needed.
- PEng - This is a potential opportunity for an engineer to earn their P.Eng. designation.
