Lead
Battery.
Lead strip, grid, pasting, separator. Every step in lead battery manufacturing depends on consistent plate thickness. Too thin and capacity drops. Too thick and you waste material and the plates do not fit
Mate Gauge solutions for the lead industry are built on the MG3 platform, developed in collaboration with leading battery manufacturers. Proven across hundreds of installations, engineered to survive lead dust, acid exposure, and round-the-clock duty cycles.
Multiple cast strips on continuous casting lines. Mounts directly to the caster, optimizing floor space. Continuous scanning with individual strip measurements and optional closed-loop thickness control.
02Single rolled lead strip on rolling lines. Edge-center-edge measurement at three preset locations. Optional sliding shuttle mount for maintenance access without taking down the line.
03Complete packages for battery plate pasting. Three installation options: wet side for real-time process control, dry side for final measurement, or stacker integration for tight floor layouts.
04Rib thickness and separator profile analysis. Reports mean rib thickness, backweb thickness, and individual rib geometry for quality verification and R&D workflows.
- Reduced paste variability leading to tighter battery capacity specifications and fewer warranty claims.
- Faster changeovers between battery sizes with recipe-based setup stored in mgOS.
- Closed-loop paster control that keeps plates within spec without constant operator intervention.
- Lead dust tolerance with protective covers and air purge options built for acid-heavy environments.

Lithium
-Ion.
In lithium-ion cell manufacturing, electrode coating thickness is one of the most consequential variables in the entire process. Thickness variation directly affects energy density, cycle life, and safety margins.
Mate Gauge gauges for lithium production are engineered around the MG3 platform, sized for the fast line speeds, tight tolerances, and clean-room environments of modern gigafactory operations.
Continuous thickness profiling across anode and cathode coatings. Measures full cross-section at up to 20 kHz, with zone-based analysis to catch coating defects the moment they appear. Works on both slot-die and gravure coating lines.
02Post-calendar thickness verification to confirm compression targets. Side-by-side pre-calendar and post-calendar data enables live calendar-gap adjustment, tightening electrode density across every coil.
- Tighter coating uniformity that translates directly to improved cell-to-cell consistency.
- Reduced scrap rates by catching coating defects in real time instead of at end-of-line inspection.
- Faster ramp-up on new cell chemistries with mgOS recipe management storing per-formula calibration.
- Data-ready output for MES and plant historian integration, feeding thickness into your quality system.

Steel &
Metals.
Steel and metal processors work with some of the harshest line environments in heavy industry. Hot rolled, cold rolled, pickled, galvanized, slit, or tension-leveled, each process introduces its own measurement challenges.
Mate Gauge offers steel plants the widest lineup of frame options in our catalog. MG1 for edge gauging, MG5-48 and MG5-86 for full-strip profiling at up to 86 inches of reach, and MGX80 for QA lab verification. One platform, multiple configurations, same mgOS experience across all of them.
Continuous thickness monitoring post-coating for zinc or zinc-alloy coated coil. Works through heat and air knife turbulence.
02Pre-slit profile verification and per-strand measurement on the outfeed side. Catches coil-to-coil variation before it becomes a customer return.
03Thickness measurement in corrosive acid-bath environments. Sealed optics and purge options keep sensors clean through long runs.
04Pre and post-leveling thickness to confirm profile flatness and detect crown or wedge before downstream processing.
- Coil-to-coil consistency from live thickness feedback at the mill stand.
- Fewer customer rejects with pre-ship profile verification on every coil.
- Reduced manual checks replaced by continuous inline measurement with automatic CSV logging.
- Safer operations with non-contact technology that keeps operators away from moving strip.

Building
Materials.
From gypsum board lines running at high speed in dusty plants to veneer peeling operations battling vibration, wet ribbon steam, and constant temperature swings, building material producers work in some of the most demanding environments in our portfolio. Geometry is rarely a simple flat sheet, face, shoulder, taper, ribbon, and edge profiles all need to be measured continuously.
Mate Gauge meets these needs with two purpose-built platforms. The MGO platform uses an O-frame design for full-width board profiling without adding height above the line. The MGV platform uses a triple-laser cluster engineered to survive the lathe environment, with up to 102 inches of reach and per-ribbon, per-sheet reporting.
Complete board profiling in a single scan pattern. Face thickness across zones, shoulder thickness per side, taper depth and width per edge, board width, edge angle verification. All reported continuously with visual board overview on the HMI.
02Triple-sensor simultaneous measurement across the ribbon. Single-edge, dual-edge, or full edge-center-edge configurations. Sheet detection, per-sheet statistics, and roughness indicators that catch knife wear before it costs you yield.
- Tighter profile control with per-edge depth, width, and ribbon thickness reported in real time.
- Knife and wear visibility through roughness measurements that flag chatter and belt issues before they show up in waste.
- Environmental durability with sealed enclosures and air-purge options built for dusty, humid, high-vibration plants.
- Inline integration that feeds thickness back into line automation and shift reporting through mgOS.
